Wow! There is nothing like being on a vacation and having good food! My last day in Atlanta was extremely special because I got a chance to eat at Mary Mac's and the food was absolutely awesome!And the service was 1st class!I come from a family of great cooks and great cooks know that food is all about the flavor!And I tell ya,everything that was on my plate,had absolutely great flavor!Thank you so much for making my dining experience a memorable one....and thanks to my awesome server Felicia(the beautiful chocolate sister from Connecticut-smile)!Can't wait to come back to Atlanta to ear at Mary Mac's again! From the moment my family and I walked in the door every person we encountered made us feel like we were one of the "family". It was absolutely awesome. Ms. Jo, Ms. Bending, every server went out of their way to make our meal special. Finally, once we tasted the food......FIREWORKS! wOW! Derrick, the executive chef is just amazing. His food has inspired me to cook again! The flavors were fresh, exciting and just plain gooooooood. I can't wait to tell everyone I know about this place. Saturday July 25, 2009, I traveled to Atlanta from Birmingham Alabama with other members of my church to the 'America I Am" exhibit. Afterwards, we stopped by Mary Mac's on the recommendation of friends.We had several pleasant surprises. First we,( party of more than 20) were able to be seated with "no reservation" in a private dining area. (The Board Room) Secondly, we of course enjoyed some of the best down home cooking ever. It was a great surprise to get cooking reminiscent of our mothers and grandmothers in a restaurant at a very inexpensive price.We received portions so large that not only were we all full and satisfied. We all left with boxes of leftovers to take home. Lastly but not least, the most pleasant surprise of all was the server. Our server RAY was an absolute joy. He was fast, accurate, efficient, kind and very funny. He provided the perfect ending to a very long day. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. On a recent trip to Atlanta I was introduced to Mary Mac's by some friends who live in Atlanta. The food was fabulous, the people friendly and the whole experience was phenomenal! Next time I come to Atlanta I will definitely be coming back for more of that delicious Southern cooking! I have met John on a personal matter and he cooked for me when he didn't have too and I was so impressed that I plan on making the trip from fla to eat. I am from Chicago, and some friends and I were in town celebrating one of our friend's 21st birthday. We stayed at the Hilton dowtown and we were looking for someone to eat that was relatively close-by and inexpensive. The valet recommended that we try Mary Mac's and we decided that we would. We got in a cab and rode the short distance to the restaurant not knowing what to expect but when we walked in we immediately felt at home and comfortable. Not to mention the staff service was impeccable, everyone was friendly and extremely accomodating. We decided to get the all-you-can-eat 3 entree family style dinner with 3 appetizers and dessert. The food was unlike anything we've ever had it was absolutely delicious so much so we returned the next day for carry-out dinner. I arrived at the Inn at the Peachtree for a buying show at the Atlanta Mart. We asked the owner about a good place with down home cooking to eat. He said I eat at Mary Mac's and gave us directions. Well much to our surprise we had a wonderful meal like my mother and grandmother cooked. I have told everyone I could after we got back to Florida. We ate there several times and the last night we just had to try the bread pudding and it was the best I have ever tasted. Mary Mac's was highly recommended by a friend from Langhorne, Pennsylvania. We enjoyed the best meal of our vacation at Mary Mac's on Friday July 3rd 2009. All four of us in our party had a different dishes, so we were able to sample all of the good food. Whatever you order save room for dessert, my personal favorite is the banana pudding! We ate at Mary Macs last night and I cannot express how much we enjoyed the food and the wonderful service. We were blessed to have Raymond as our server. I've been dining at Mary Mac's since the days of not being caught dead downtown without your hat and white gloves. This is still the same comfort food that I remember as a child. The photos and memorabilia on the walls are a visual reminder of the Atlanta I grew up with. I always highly recommend Mary Mac's to everyone!
