I loved eating at Mary Mac's while a student at Emory University. The home cooked turkey dinner was my favorite comfort food dinner. My brother and first visited by in 1978. We were hooked. Now that my daughter is attending Emory I can't wait to take my family to Mary Mac's for a terrific home cooked southern meal. I now reside in New York City and still consider Mary Mac's one of my favorite restuarants. Can't wait to fly down this spring and visit you again. It's been way too long, 1985 to be exact. My mouth is watering now!!! Submitted By: Dr Richard Beatus

I catered my Thanksgiving Dinner with Mary Macs. Not only was the food delicious- the service was impeccable. I will now cater all holiday dinners with Mary Macs. Thanks. Submitted By: Latasha

We had the distinct pleasure of enjoying wonderful food and genuine Southern ambience - all with the most capable and caring attention of James, our server, and, of course, Ms. Jo Carter, who welcomed us with stories and backrubs. Mary Mac's is now on our "top ten list" of Atlanta eateries. Submitted By: The Bowers

We had been told that Mary Mac's is an institution in Atlanta, a fact which was confirmed by our Atlanta friends. The clientele is a cross section of the city's population. The evening we were there a wedding reception was in the recently completed addition while the dining rooms were filled with families and their children, profesionals in business suits, emergency medical technicians taking a dinner break, young couples out on the town and tourists like ourselves. The food and atmosphere harkens back to the Sunday dinners we remember growing up. The relaxed, "at home" feeling is enhanced by Jo Carter who for the past 15 years has greeted everyone at their table with stories and a back rub. The most difficult part of the evening was selecting one's order. The menu is extensive with 25 main courses and 38 side dishes. The traditional Southern food was universally excellent and the portions were generous. The staff works hard to ensure that there is the genuine feeling of "old S

I actually went to Mary Mac's my first time in January of 2008. My aunt, uncle and cousin came to Atlanta to visit us from Colorado and they suggested that we come here and eat because they said the food was fantastic. At least 15 to 20 of my family members came along to have our first experience. We had to wait to be seated which was not long considering there was so many of us dining in without a reservation. We were seated and the waiter instantly passed out what my cousin and I called scan trons, like they do in school when you are taking a test. Majority of my family were acting like we were taking a test deciding on what to eat. I never went to a restaurant that actually gave you paper so you could write your own meal down. It was very fun and new to experience. To make a story short, we all enjoyed the food, atmosphere and the people in the restaurant. We took many pictures that day and I posted them on my MySpace page. The waiter was nice and patient and other customers were ni

This was my third trip to Atlanta and my first visit to Mary Mac's. I heard about Mary mac's from a lady on my flight here in Los Angeles and decided to come and finally find out what authentic Southern cooking is all about. Coming here alone, I found the atmosphere to be both warm and inviting, and to my surprise the dining area included a large variety of clientele. I was greeted by Jo, a genuine and gracious hostess who made me feel like I was at home. I ordered the chicken and dumplings and buttered peas, which were both savory and filling. Jo offered me few sample side dishes for my curious taste buds; a homely treatment I would not have found in Los Angeles. I tasted the squash souffle which surely satisfied my sweet tooth and the collard greens which were completely new to me. I also tried some fried okra, a tasty variation from the okra my grandmother prepares back home. The buttery cornbread and biscuits completed my meal. i walked away from the table feeling more tha

Thank you and your staff for the kind hospitality extended to my wife and I on our visit to Mary Mac's. As you may recall our first visit was stopped about 50 feet short of your door when we unexpectedly met up with a taxi while crossing Ponce de Leon. Mary Mac's came so highly recommended as a place we could find some great Southern country cooking we vowed to return after the ER medics patched us up. Even though we ached and limped a little more than if we had been successful on our first attempt, you and your staff graciously justified our resolve to get safely through the door on the second try! Thank you for your concern for our well being and thank you for a wonderful downhome lunch. The food and the attention were wonderful and reminded us both that there are some people who care for others and they are personified in a classic Southern eatery known as Mary Mac's. We'll be back! On ednesday, my neice and I had lunch at our favorite restaurant, Mary mac's Tea Room. After returning to my apartment, I noticed my glasses were missing. I called Mary Mac's and Mr. John Ferrell said he had found them. He "jumped" into his car and returned my glasses. He is one in a million! So willing to help! I would like to say to Mr. Ferrell, "Thank you Mr. Ferrell. You are a Gentleman with a Southern attitude, and I wish you perfect health, happiness, and continued success." The first time I had lunch at Mary Mac's was in 1981. I had just moved to Atlanta from middle Georgia, and my coworkers brought me to lunch at Mary Mac's. Then they handed me the order form that you fill out, and I thought it was some big city thing I had never seen before... but I filled it out. When everyone was done, they gave me the sheets and told me to take them to the kitchen and give them to the first person I saw. It sounded strange, but I went off to the kitchen. A lady met me there and looked at me like I was crazy, "what are you doing in here, why are you in this kitchen?!" That was how I met Miss Lupo. She tried to put me to work while I was there! We laughed about the whole thing, she was so great, and I've been eating lunch at Mary Mac's ever since. It's still as good as ever. Submitted By: Mike Hartness
